Happy New Year, everyone !
I really love the holidays, but I am also relieved that its all over now and I can get back to my daily routine. I am sure most of you ,just like me, had a lot of candy, wine and not so healthy food and that always reflects on our skin.
As of January 1st I have been following a Skin Reset Checklist that I created for myself , so I can detox my skin and body and bring back my glow.
It has only been five days and I already see a difference so I thought I’d share it with you all !
1. Drink 100 oz of water a day.
I always thought I drank a lot of water until I started recording my intake in my Fitbit app. Turns out I don’t drink even half as much as I though I did. Water flushes toxins out of your body and it is the only way to get rid of dark circles and puffy eyes ! Free water > Expensive eye creams. Take it from someone who has tried all the eye creams out there.
2. Get a humidifier for your bedroom.
Less humidity in winter + Heat indoors + cold weather = very dry, dehydrated, rough skin
I got the Homedics Humidifier for Bed Bath and Beyond- about $60. So worth the money! No noise , very fine vapor and looks pretty in my bedroom Humidifiers replenish the water in your skin lost due to almost no moisture in the air and make your skin look plumper and dewy. When skin is dehydrated it looks aged, grey and scaly and nobody wants that !!!
3. Drink more tea and less alcohol.
I have been drinking a cup or two a day of Yogi Skin Detox Tea, that I bought in Whole Foods. It tastes great , its good for the skin and it counts toward your daily water intake. Yay
Alcohol -wise I am shooting for two drinks per week in the month of January . I know !!!! This is going to be hard, because I love my ‘glass’ of wine every day , which is more like two -ish glasses , but so far I have been doing good . Alcohol dehydrates the body and makes your liver sluggish, thus it is not able to process and get rid of the toxins.
4. Get your beauty sleep ! – 8 hours every day.
This is another essential rule. When you sleep skin regenerates and heals itself. Inflammation gets reversed and skin becomes younger. For those of you that can’t sleep very well taking Magnesium right before you go to bed helps tremendously. It calms your nevous system and reduces anxiety.
5. Moisturize !
Use a good moisturizer with SPF / I recommend #SKIN moisturizing SPF 22 / in the morning and an extra hydrating one at night / my pick Cranberry Cream /. Moisturizers protect your skin from harmful environmental conditions like cold weather ,UV rays etc.
So that’s it – five steps that are simple and inexpensive and will make a positive impact on your skin. I also feel like January is the best month to do it, because it’s the beginning of the year and you can start your skin off with a clean slate ; it’s freezing out and there aren’t many temptations for going out and drinking ; it’s a time to nurture your skin and get your glow in time for the spring and summer months. Start today – don’t wait for a Monday or the 1st of the month- just decide and do it now. I would love to hear feedback at the end of the month.
Wishing you a great and successful 2015 !!!!
Truly ,
Magdalena
